Promoting Employment-Intensive Growth in Nepal: Policy Analysis of Agriculture Sector
Client
International Labour Organization (ILO)
Location
Nepal (National)
Project Description
Submitted to the ILO, this study analyzed Nepal's agricultural sector to identify opportunities for employment-intensive growth. It addressed the paradox of slow growth despite high agricultural dependence. The research examined sub-sectors with high potential (high-value crops, off-season vegetables), computed employment elasticity, and identified constraints like regulatory frameworks and governance issues. It analyzed trends from 1985/86 to 2009/10, aiming to support Nepal's Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper by recommending interventions for productive job creation.
